Road Closures for the Cape Town E-prix

The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship’s first race on the African takes place this Saturday and Cape Town is ready to host it. The City of Cape Town would like to remind residents to take notice of interruptions to traffic leading up to and after the event. 

Residents and motorists are reminded that due to the Cape Town E-prix event, taking place on Saturday 25 February, a number of roads in the Green Point and Mouille Point areas will be affected.

Helen Suzman Road, one of the main arteries which connects the CBD to Sea Point, is closed from 22:30 on Thursday 23 February 2023 until Saturday.

Beach Road between Granger Bay Blvd and Fritz Sonnenberg Road will also be closed to traffic.

Motorists who intend to access Sea Point on these days can use Somerset Road or High Level Road. 

'We would like to urge motorists coming into the CBD and intending on going to Sea Point or the Waterfront to avoid the Green Point Precinct as this area will either be closed off or congested on Friday and Saturday. We call on motorists to use alternative routes away from the event footprint. We will be deploying the City's Traffic Services to work with other services to ensure safety and manage traffic flow in the event footprint,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security Alderman JP Smith.

MyCiTi

As a result of the road closures, the following MyCiTi routes will be affected and commuters can expect delays: In addition, the following MyCiTi routes will be affected and commuters can expect delays:

• 104 - Civic Centre to Sea Point
• 108 – Adderley to Hangberg via Sea Point and Hout Bay Harbour
• 109 – Adderley to Hout Bay Beach
• 113 -  Waterfront to Upper Kloof Street 
• 118 - Adderley to Hangberg via Sea Point and Imizamo Yethu
• T01 – Waterfront to Dunoon via Civic Centre
  
   
  
  There will be no parking at the event on race day.
  
   
  
  In an effort to minimise traffic congestion to the Green Point precinct, the City is availing a free MyCiTi shuttle service for ticket holders to travel to the event space.
  
   
  
  Buses will depart from the Civic Centre and MyCiTi stations from 07:00 on Saturday.
  
   
  
  The service will run on demand.
  
   
  
  The last bus from the P12 parking on Green Point Main Road to the Civic
  
  Centre will leave at 20:00.
  
   
  
  Ticket holders are encouraged to utilise a park and ride system where they park their vehicles in the city centre and take the MyCiTi shuttle to the stadium.
  
   
  
  A dedicated E-Hailing drop-and-go area will be established in Parking P15 on Helen Suzman Boulevard.
